Unsurprisingly, E3 2021’s live event seems to have been cancelled
Documents for an upcoming meeting of the Los Angeles Convention and Tourism Development Board (found through a poster on the Resetera forum) lists E3 as “Canceled Live Event in 2021”.
E3 2020 was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and while ESA was looking for ways to replace it with an “online experience” it didn’t come off in the end. Earlier this year, ESA suggested: “We are changing the E3 experience for 2021 and will shortly be releasing full details on how we bring the global video game community together.” The above document includes the note “Working with the Production Team” on broadcast options at LA Live / LACC. “It is entirely possible that an online version of E3 could come together before the Sony E3 pandemic left E3 to host its own event , and thanks to 2020, Ubisoft and Bethesda now have experience running showcase events independently.
The Convention and Tourism Development Board document states that it is the “Working on 2022 and 2023” license, but chances are E3 will simply not return if things don’t come together this year.
Last year we held our regular PC Gaming Show as an online event with more than 50 games on display.
